No. Before they start Primary school they haven’t yet built up enough stamina, concentration and physical development to be able to cope with a Fencing Fun class.
CloseFencing Fun operates a strict online payment policy. This is designed to streamline the process so your booking experience is straight forward & efficient. Fencing Fun operates a secure online payment system that meets current legislation. When the online payment system is not available, we will accept registration for a class and email a Booking Form for completion and return with payment by cheque.
CloseUnfortunately, Fencing Fun does not offer trial classes as it often means that coaches are unaware of the numbers and the children attending. However, Fencing Fun will refund your payment if you did not want to return after the first class. An administration fee of £10 will be deducted from your original payment. Please note the Registration fee is non-refundable as your kit will have been ordered.
CloseThe Fencing Fun Joining fee is £45. This covers the administration costs and you will also receive the Fencing Fun log book, Scottish Fencing Membership and Grading Glove.
CloseEach class may differ slightly in cost depending on hall hire costs etc. Upon booking your first term online the cost will be calculated including the £20 registration fee. For the next 12 months all your term fees will be calculated without this charge providing you tick the box “already enrolled”. If you join part term the cost for the remainder of the term is calculated and dates provided.
CloseNo! The equipment is fully tested to CEN European safety standards and is specifically designed for use by young children; our classes have a “safe zone” outside of which children must wear a fencing mask; our rules ensure that children fully understand where and when they can use their swords.
CloseAll Fencing Fun sessions carry child's personal accident and public liability insurance.
CloseAll our coaches have been through detailed in-house training, hold coaching qualifications recognised by British Fencing, have been checked by Disclosure Scotland, have been trained and certified in First Aid and attended Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshops.
CloseThe class is a structured session which involves a warm up, balance and mobility exercises, blade skills including a variety of games to develop technical and tactical skills and controlled fencing matches.
CloseEach session lasts approximately 50 minutes.
CloseWe advise tracksuit trousers, trainers and a long-sleeved top. You will receive your Fencing Fun sweatshirt (plus water bottle and sticker) at the class early in your first term.
CloseWe advise you bring refreshments, especially a drink for during and after the session. All the Fencing Fun kit (masks and swords) are supplied for the session.
CloseOne lead coach is permitted to take up to 12 children in one class. Larger classes will have 2 or more coaches.
CloseThe emphasis at Fencing Fun is a balance of enjoyment and skill development. Most of the games we play have a technical, physical or tactical goal at their heart but they are fun first! For the older class we do start teaching slightly more specific fencing skills and start to introduce some more fencing terminology.
CloseYes of course! A parent or carer is expected to stay for the duration of the class.
CloseNot during class as this would be distracting. You may take a photograph of your child after fencing if you wish. N.B. Due to the current child protection laws you are not allowed to take photographs of any other child, a group shot of the children or general shots of the fencing class without first gaining the permission of all the parents concerned and Fencing Fun.
CloseRefunds are available if a customer decides they do not want the service after the first session less a £10 admin fee. The annual registration fee of £20 is not refundable as it covers the cost of the welcome pack (sweatshirt, water bottle, etc.).
