Polycarbonate masks with stainless steel mesh visors in bright colours offer protection to the face, eyes and neck. Foam swords are made from a special foam which is rigid enough to fence with but soft enough not to hurt. Plastic swords share most of the characteristics of metal weapons but weigh only 100g and are more flexible to ensure hits don’t hurt. Electric buzzers let the fencers know when a hit has been scored. All equipment is tested to CEN standards. The fencers should wear long-sleeved t-shirts or sweatshirts and tracksuit trousers. No additional safety kit is required.
